This position is for an Aircraft Maintenance Technician based out of our Cedar Rapids, IA location.
The person in this position will perform maintenance and / or inspection tasks including ground handling activities on aircraft supporting UTFlight, aircraft powerplants, systems and aircraft communications equipment in accordance with UTFlight and FAA maintenance policies / regulations, service manuals, manufacturer specifications and bulletins, inspection procedures, and verbal instructions to maintain aircraft airworthiness/certification in order to achieve a superior quality, and timely product, in an economical manner. Perform diversified scheduled and unscheduled maintenance relating to the repair, alteration, service and inspection of structure, hydraulic, pneumatic, communication, navigation, surveillance, electrical, electronic systems and components installed on complex business aircraft. Investigate and analyze malfunctions reported by flight crews or detected through inspection, and utilize proper tools, instruments or test equipment best suited for the task to analyze and repair. Ensure that all activity and record keeping is in compliance with Federal Aviation, Federal Communications Commission, Department of Transportation Regulations and UTFlight procedures. Responsible for the preplanning of required tooling, equipment and safety precautions necessary to perform required maintenance and general environment of work area as they affect personal safety and general health of peer associates. Also responsible for those tasks required to support the work control and inventory management systems and any other administrative tasks required to support the maintenance function.
Perform work, as necessary, according to the general instructions of the supervisor, considering priority of work to assure completion of work on schedule. Adhere to manufacturer’s schematics, service manuals, bulletins, specifications, inspection procedures and verbal instructions to maintain airworthiness and prepare for flight various fixed wing and rotor type aircraft and their respective sub-systems and components. Investigate and analyze malfunction reported by pilots, utilize tools best suited for the task and troubleshoot various mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems. Check continuity in electrical circuits, disassemble and inspect various components, equipment and accessories. Perform engine changes, rigging flight control systems and performing modifications as directed ensuring that proper documentation is completed and submitted for processing on required UTFlight maintenance records. Devise work methods, check maintenance manual procedures and adhere to safety precautions necessary for care, and proper use of equipment and tools too include methods from new or non standard installations; alter and adapt existing tooling and equipment as appropriate for the task. Plan and perform operations such as removing and replacing major components including engines, wings, wing sections, tail surfaces, landing gear components, fuel tanks and all related equipment and accessories without supervision. [Adaptability/Forward Thinking/Focus on Results]
Make engine and aircraft modifications according to manufacturer bulletins or customer job orders. Perform aircraft and engine checks using UTFlight check lists and / or manufacturer’s specifications as required. [Technical/Functional/Teamwork]
Direct or make all necessary repairs, replacements and adjustments to maintain required specifications, and investigate, isolate and correct reported malfunctions. [Teamwork/Analytical Thinking]
Maintain aircraft appearance to maximize corrosion prevention, by maintaining painted surfaces, polishing and cleaning as necessary. [Customer Focus/Adaptability]
Participate in the moving and parking (ground handling) of aircraft on the ramp or in the hangars.
Perform final ground checks on aircraft and record results. Perform ground run-ups and accompany pilots on flights as observer, and troubleshooter, and recommend methods of correcting engine or flight anomalies. [Forward Thinking/Business Judgment]
Keep informed of technological advances in repair and maintenance processes. [Communication Skills/Teamwork]
Review work, participate in reviewing cases where quality of work or elements of performance should/could be improved and recommend changes to improve efficiency and effect cost reduction. [Focus on Results/Technical-Functional]
Record a detailed description of work performed, with emphasis on accuracy and completeness. Relay pertinent information to Supervisor and or Quality Assurance. [Focus on Results]
Ensure that all UTFlight ground equipment and assigned vehicles are and kept in good operating condition, inspected prior to use, properly operated and defects noted, reported to Supervisor. [Technical/Functional]
Maintain and revise FAA and aircraft documents as requested. [Adaptability/Customer Focus]
Ensure that all activities are in compliance with all appropriate United Technologies and Government EH&S, Diversity and Ethics policies and guidelines. [Forward Thinking/Customer Focus]
Perform additional tasks and acquire varying responsibilities as appropriate.
Must be able to travel worldwide without restriction.
Minimum of 5 years (current) experience, actively using the Federal Aviation “Air-frame and Power-plant Certificate” (A&P) in planning and performing maintenance on air-frames, engines and all sub-systems including inspections on turbine powered complex medium and long range airplanes and heavy helicopters.
Extensive working knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations 21, 23, 25, 29, 43, 45, 65 and 91.
The position requires an intricate knowledge of the latest technologies employed in highly sophisticated medium to heavy turbine powered aircraft, their power-plants, flight and stabilization controls, dynamic lift devices, air conditioning and pressurization, pneumatic, fuel, electronic systems, oxygen, hydraulic and navigation systems.
Requires a thorough working knowledge of the Federal Aviation Regulations, their interpretation and application. Requires a thorough understanding of the Air Transportation Association (ATA) Specification No.100, and working knowledge of aircraft manuals, technical bulletins, engineering orders, service bulletins and Airworthiness Directives.
Requires demonstrated prior experience inspecting structures, power-plants and their related subsystems, utilizing analytical and non-destructive methods for class of aircraft operated by UTFlight.
Requires the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in written, with all persons, and constituencies, associated with the safe operation of aircraft.
Aircraft dispatch reliability and availability will be a key metric for this position.
This position also requires the ability and willingness to work flexible hours, occasional weekends and holidays and out doors exposure. Occasional off-site work may also be required.
Occasional travel may be required.
Active “Drivers License” must be maintained. (If revoked associate must advise immediate supervisor.)
