Role Overview

The Collins Aerospace Rig Development and Support team is looking for a talented and experienced systems engineer to be the next Project Engineer for the Rig Development and Support team. Join our team of engineers designing and maintaining systems rigs for avionics programs. As a Project Engineer in our organization, you will be responsible for designing, build ownership and coordination of system rig needs in the development of a state-of-the-art avionics systems.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for technical details of systems rig design and development, ensuring the system rig meets the expectations of the domain teams and customers

  • Establishing, maintaining and ensuring compliance with engineering design plans and processes

  • Technical coordination with many diverse teams, including, but not limited to: hardware developers, software developers and integrators, certification engineers, and program/product managers

  • Provide technical direction to the systems and software teams

  • Demonstrate good judgement by quickly assessing the cost, benefits and risks of decisions, and apply critical thinking and sound logic to make well-informed decisions

  • Interfacing with external customers and project management

  • Primary rig team systems interface to Technical Program Manager

  • Lead preparation and participation of systems content for program PDR, CDR, TPR, and other meetings/reviews

  • Estimate, track, own and report technical scope, cost and schedule for all systems activities

  • Performing earned value management and reporting

  • Lead build and support bid and proposal efforts

  • Proactively identify and manage risk associated with the system development

  • Mentor other team members, and help them develop in areas such as: systems engineering, RC processes, tools and project execution

Qualifications:

  • This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline (STEM degree is highly preferred) and 5 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 3 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required.

  • US Citizenship is required

  • Previous experience developing hardware, software or firmware for high-assurance, embedded systems is required.
