As part of the Military Avionics & Helicopters engineering organization, we bring civilian avionics technologies to military and special mission customers around the globe. We are a department of Systems Engineers and Project Engineers based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Our Systems Engineers typically have a background as a pilot, a degree in Aerospace Engineering, or Avionics industry experience in software development. We architect, integrate, and verify avionics solutions that are capable of performing in both civilian and special mission capacities. We work directly with customers around the globe to find solutions that fit their unique needs. The Mil-Civil Platform Systems Department is capable of delivering ARP-4754A/DO-178B civil certified solutions. We provide systems engineering through all phases of product development including: program pursuit and capture, requirements capture and analysis, system architecture design, requirements allocation and traceability, system / subsystem integration, system verification, system validation, and life-cycle product support.
Systems engineering tasks include capturing and defining stakeholder requirements, system interconnect/interface design, coordination with design engineering and the customer, integration testing, and customer integration support. The candidate will also be responsible for providing direction, coordination, and control of assigned systems projects, including management of specific work packages for scope, cost, and schedule in accordance with established systems engineering processes.
Additional activities may include:
Working with subsystem/domains to define and agree upon detailed requirements
Integration of applications with IMA platform hardware/software and with the complete avionics system
Engineering estimates preparation
System testing and completion of certification documentation
System architectural modeling, performance analysis and technical reporting
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline (STEM degree is highly preferred) and 7 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 5 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 11 years of relevant experience is required.
The candidate should possess a background in systems, software or hardware engineering
The successful candidate will be highly motivated, well organized and able to communicate effectively with other engineers, leadership and customers.
A background in aerospace, aviation and/or avionics is highly desirable but not an absolute necessity.
Domestic and International travel may be required.
Key qualifications we look for in our Systems Engineering team:
Involvement in a complex aerospace/aviation systems or subsystems development
Working knowledge of avionics and navigation principles.
Professional or recreational piloting experience
Familiarity with tools such as JAMA or DOORS, JIRA, Subversion, PREP (peer review tool)
Knowledge and experience working in an AGILE environment such as Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)
Experience with the Collins Aerospace Pro Line Fusion IPS or EDS Architecture
Knowledge and experience working with Avionics regulatory and certification requirements such as: TSO, DO-160, DO-254, DO-297, DO-178B/C, and ARP4754A.
