The Technology & Engineering organization is comprised of the global engineering function, several focused centers of expertise, our skunkworks organization – United Technologies Advanced Projects (UTAP), and our advanced Research & Development lab – United Technologies Research Center (UTRC). The Additive Manufacturing Center of Expertise (AMCOE), centrally hosted at UTC’s Research Center, encompasses a critical mass of Additive Manufacturing process and industrialization experts, the necessary equipment, and develop the strategic collaborations needed to rapidly mature the technology and manufacturing readiness of the critical technologies. The aim of the Center is to accelerate the development and deployment of additive manufactured products and systems for UTC’s business units (Collins Aerospace Systems, Pratt & Whitney, Otis Elevator, and UTC Climate, Controls, & Security).
The Summer 2020 Process Intern will be responsible for one or more of the following activities as they relate to the AMCOE, including:
·Investigating the effects of machine parameters on build quality and properties of fabricated parts
·Developing post fabrication powder removal techniques
·Characterizing fabricated parts to understand defects and surface finishes
·Providing input on the Design Standards for new product development
·Supporting the commissioning and verification of new equipment
Qualifications & Competencies
The preferred candidate should have a strong understanding of engineering principles and hands on experience working with laboratory equipment. She/he must be able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, collaborative team environment focused on innovation and have demonstrated both verbal and written communication skills including:
Strong presentation, planning, problem solving, organizational, project management and decision-making skills
Experience using data analytics, problem solving and process control tools
Experience with Additive Manufacturing concepts or equipment
Education & Experience
Candidate must be a rising senior pursing a BS degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Manufacturing Engineering or related technical field. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed a BS degree and are enrolled in an advanced degree program. An understanding of, or prior experience with, Additive Manufacturing is desirable. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required.
