The Receiving Inspector I performs receiving inspections of Collins Aerospace Fairfield’s materials received as Group I and Group II purchases from suppliers and parts manufactured by the machine shop. The Inspections consist of open set-ups using standard measuring instruments as well as special measuring instruments and gages. The Receiving Inspector I will use ANSI Dimensioning and Tolerancing knowledge to interpret receiving inspection procedures, drawings and blueprints in the inspection of received hardware. Conducts review of certifications to establish compliance to purchase order requirements. Communicates in writing and verbally on concerns with supplier conformance. The Receiving Inspector I observes the condition of received hardware and documents their technical observations on paper. Must establish professional rapport with customers, vendors and Collins Aerospace Engineers.


  • Perform detailed product inspections on incoming materials from suppliers, including but not limited to First Article Inspections and certified supplier document reviews.

  • Document characteristics of Collins Aerospace products accurately and with technical detail.

  • Initiate Quality Notifications for any products that do not conform to written work instructions.

  • Perform accurate and detailed dimensional inspections without supervision.

  • Establish professionalism and timeliness in the performance of daily activities.

  • Apply quality assurance procedures and requirements to the inspection of Collins Aerospace hardware and document review.

  • Identify any potential quality issues early and prevent their occurrence.

  • Communicate effectively to other Collins Aerospace personnel any quality issues needing resolutions.

  • Indicate status of Collins Aerospace products within the MRP system.

  • Work multiple assignments concurrently and maintaining flexibility to production schedule.

  • Monitor the use of calibrated measuring instruments.

Education Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • 1-2 Years Manufacturing or Quality Assurance experience preferred in lieu of education.

Experience Required:

  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions and percentages

  • Experience performing detailed product inspections using blueprints/specifications and precision measuring and test equipment

  • The ability to work safely within an energetic materials manufacturing facility

  • Excellent communication skills to drive effective problem resolution and communicate quality status and concerns to other Collins Aerospace personnel

  • The ability to utilize computer systems including input of data and retrieval of information for inspections and configuration purposes

  • The ability to promote team spirit within the company and to provide a leadership role in the area of cooperation with all internal and external customers

  • The ability to concentrate on assigned tasks despite interruptions

  • The ability to review documents and to identify and resolve any errors or missing information

  • The ability to work without supervision

Skills Required:

  • Be able to follow work instructions

  • Have the skills and knowledge to carry out any necessary preparation of parts before or after inspection in accordance with approved work instructions

  • Have the skills and knowledge to set up and standardize equipment, process parts, and document results

  • Be thoroughly familiar with the scope and limitations of the technique/methods performed

  • Must have basic Microsoft Office computer skills including the ability to use other computer programs and operating software including SAP

  • Be familiar with the codes, standards, and other contractual documents that control the method as used by Collin Aerospace

  • Pass a near vision test and color perception test annually

  • Ability to read, write, and understand English with reference to but not limited to Collins Aerospace Fairfield’s technical documents, purchase orders, quality requirements and data entry software
