Job Description

Otis is seeking a Manager, Employee Communications. Reporting to the Associate Director, Employee Communications, the Manager, Employee Communications will be responsible for the development, support and execution of internal communication strategies, tactics and campaigns.

The ideal candidate is creative, innovative, and proactive. S/he has a minimum of five years of communications experience with a demonstrated ability to develop content that grabs our employees’ attention from the first look. From intranet stories to creative contests and campaigns promoted through Yammer, S/he will share meaningful stories with the goal of educating, inspiring and engaging teams.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate has an understanding of the current and new realities of employee communications across a globally diverse business and demonstrate an understanding of cutting-edge practices across new channels and platforms. S/he understands the value of working within a wholly-integrated, multi-discipline communications team. S/he is comfortable in a high-performing, fast-paced environment, can adapt quickly to support the development of content and decision making in rapidly developing, time-sensitive situations.

S/he will support and coordinate with Otis leadership, Sales & Marketing, Human Resources, Operations, Legal and more to identify storylines in alignment with our business priorities. S/he must be an exceptional writer and storyteller, with the ability find the meaningful angle to a piece and the ability to make connections to news and happenings throughout our business and industry, and leverage our brand style and tone to effectively shape messages and content for target audiences.

S/he must also have a willingness to support the employee communications team with a variety of activities – from strategy and content development, to assessing metrics and channels, to supporting content delivery and postings. In addition, s/he will be adept at multitasking with a strong commitment to quality and meeting deadlines.

Other specific responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate with other members of the global Communications team and functional teams to communicate key company messages to employees, and to ensure consistent processes both internally and externally

  • Research and write/develop content for our employee communication channels (intranet, internal social platforms, email, events)

  • Assist with the development, coordination and execution of strategic communications initiatives that support Otis business goals

  • Provide tactical support of Otis’ SharePoint intranet site, including posting articles, creating banners using PhotoShop, helping to manage our editorial process, tracking/communicating usage metrics, collaborating with IT to identify enhancements, etc

  • Assist with the distribution of e-newsletters and other notifications

  • Assist with the posting of video content

Requirements/Experience

  • At least 5 years of demonstrated success in Communications and Public Relations

  • Multi-national, Fortune 500 company experience and industry knowledge in the areas of commercial building systems and/or consumer facing brands and products preferred

  • The ability to work with urgent deadlines, changing priorities, and to manage multiple high-priority assignments simultaneously, in a professional manner

  • Demonstrated creativity in employee communications

  • Uses strong customer service skills to address employee comments and emails as needed

  • Demonstrated analytical, research, and editorial skills, as well as comfort with applying data to business challenges

  • Proven and highly efficient project management capabilities, including prioritizing, developing and executing plans, tracking progress, solving problems, mitigating risks and achieving goals

  • Strong attention to detail, high-quality work, and the ability to make recommendations

  • Demonstrated success working in a team environment and ability to collaborate with an array of colleagues – from other functional departments, and in diverse geographic locations

  • A team-first mindset, with a willingness to embrace change and to adapt evolving strategies

  • Exceptionally strong written and verbal communications skills; a natural storyteller with an ability to engage audiences and simplify complex issues

  • Expert in working with MS Word (track changes, compare documents, change layouts, etc)

  • Strong familiarity with AP Style

  • Proficient with Photoshop

  • Proficient with Poppulo (mass email tool) and SharePoint (intranet) strongly preferred, but not required

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree, Communications preferred
