Use basic analytical and experimental skills in acoustic and vibration measurement and data analysis. Position involves work ranging from early concept studies to implementation of production sound and vibration treatment including S&V qualification, sound rating and noise performance of HVAC products. Candidate should be creative and flexible, with the ability to work on problems ranging from product qualification to experimental investigations. Provide product engineers with sound and vibration test support. Fill in for experienced project and/or psychrometric rooms technicians as needed to execute test plans. Good communication skills and strong work ethic and multitasking are required.

Install heating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment in test laboratories, install S&V test set-ups to support basic lab testing Queue, run and monitor Sound and Vibration tests Perform wiring and modification of test units Collect, organize, and communicate test data with responsible Engineers Follow procedure manuals to conduct, monitor, analyze, and reduce basic tests Assist S&V and Product engineer’s in developing sound and vibration control solutions using experimental methods. Generate written test data sheets and test summary reports. Work closely with RES engineering HVAC teams to implement sound and vibration control in HVAC products. Set up and instrumentation of split systems in psychrometric rooms as and when needed Modify and fabricate test units and test setups as directed by responsible engineers or technicians Conduct sound testing of Residential air conditioning to AHRI and internal standards using conventional reverberation room measurement and open area survey techniques. Plan and conduct S&V testing covering both S&V qualification of HVAC products and R&D investigations (Use basic problem solving methods to resolve issues and questions related to S&V lab facility and/or product testing). Operate and maintain the Sound Room and Quiet Room 1 test facilities at Res Indy while closely collaborating and supporting vibration testing in Vibration lab (& Quiet Room 2). Respond quickly to the varying business needs by adjusting test schedules test plans that impact the Sound Room and/or Quiet Room 1 and Vibration lab. Conduct S&V data acquisition using High Speed Data Acquisition systems Learn to maintain PC based data acquisition programs used in S&V testing Learn basic post processing methodologies and techniques of S&V test data Organizes test sequences and keeps customers informed of schedule and progress to schedule Maintains lab spaces in organized and safe manner while achieving UTC ACE GOLD standard and maintaining Residential Engineering’s metrics on Tour Readiness Run and trouble-shoot data acquisition systems for S&V testing Capable of independent work under S&V engineer’s or S&V leader’s supervision. Organize and maintain lab 5S. Organize and facilitate kaizen events for laboratory improvements.

LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITIES: Under moderate supervision, performs varied tasks of intermediate complexity Applies intermediate and some advanced skills to perform the position within the assigned area May adapt new procedures, techniques, tools and equipment to meet more complex testing requirements Resolves most questions and problems, and refers more complex issues to higher levels

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent, plus additional specialized courses or short-term training (one year or less) with minimum of 10 years’ experience in Sound and Vibration OR Associates Degree (AA/AS), Technical/Business School Certificate or Diploma, Skilled Trades Apprenticeship, or other post high school training (two years duration) with minimum of 5 years’ experience. (BMET/BEET degree would be preferred)

*Experience/Qualifications Experience with vibration and/or acoustic (sound) testing EPA certification for handling refrigerants (preferred) Highly organized with strong attention to detail, while managing multiple priorities Proficient in the use a PC/laptop and in using a computer for collecting data and performing computer basic tasks using Windows OS Ability to comprehend and comply with EH&S Practices & Policies and Ethics Practices Experience working in a team and matrix environment Proven capacity to self-direct/motivate with a vision toward future goals Intermediate level skills with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel Understanding and ability to use basic instrumentation The ideal candidate for this position will have the ability to work in a demanding environment and have a can-do attitude with a strong work ethic and good communication skills
