Position Summary:

Lead and manage robust design methodologies and initiatives within the engineering design center. Robust Design Leaders (RDLs) are subject matter experts responsible for the deployment, execution, and auditing of engineering quality methods and Quality Review Board (QRB) teams. This is a full-time role with direct reporting to the engineering design center leadership.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a leader / change agent supporting product development teams:

  • Be accountable for robust product development within the design center; recommend that programs that do not meet standards for product design or quality are re-directed or stopped as appropriate.

  • Drive improvement and standardization by implementing effective processes that help product teams deliver robust and safe products

  • Chair or coordinate as necessary on QRB teams to help drive success (e.g. special technical design / process reviews supporting QRB).

  • Be an active voice to help ensure the quality of the QRB review process and associated decisions

As an expert, coach, consultant:

  • Participate in the development, maintenance and interpretation of policies and standard work for engineering and coordinate their implementation:

  • Worldwide and local Robust Engineering policies and standards

  • QRB checklist content as well as materials supporting design review and QRB templates

  • Be proficient in key areas of the Robust Design skills matrix that apply to the projects at the design center including:

  • Critical Parameter Management

  • FMEA

  • Requirements Management

  • Risk Management

  • Software Marciano

  • Test & Reliability

  • Modeling & Design of Experiments

  • Provide training and support to development teams in applying design standards, methods, tools and concepts

As a member of the global Robust Design Leadership team:

  • Provide feedback to propagate best practices and lessons learned from local projects including:

  • COPQ improvements

  • Cost reductions

  • Develop, implement, and improve both Operations and Engineering metrics related to process certification and design robustness (including Engineering Effectiveness metrics and standard work)

  • Interface with Operations and champion Design for Manufacturability and Modularity for new programs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s in Engineering required

Experience serving in a lead capacity and working cross-functionally

8-10 years of experience in engineering required

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS

Position will involve working directly with WHQ engineering functional leadership and Global CCS/Otis Robust Design Leadership. Position involves coordination and communication with design centers, program managers, and other interdisciplinary functions.
