Role Overview

We are looking for a hard-working, enthusiastic Synthetic Designer to participate in the production of 3D immersive computer-generated environments for Collins Aerospace image generation. Strong technical artistic skills, including a good working knowledge of 3D environment design and simulation, are important. An understanding of, 3D computer modeling including but not limited to 3D visual environment scenes, entities, weather effect utilizing photo retouching, image editing tools.

This person will start out as an individual contributor and is expected to be highly motivated to learn the technology, tools, and processes of Collins Aerospace and to quickly complete assignments with some guidance from technical leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs duties dealing the description, labeling, logging, and organization of source data relevant to the design, requirements, construction and review of visual databases.

  • Creates required documentation associated with component development and testing.

  • Is responsible for using component configuration management tools and following associated configuration management procedures.

  • Has familiarity with, and utilizes several different types of COTS and in-house tools sets to process data relevant to visual database handling and construction, given top level and component design standards and processes.

  • Constructs 3D polygonal models and/or textures for features such as buildings and towers, low detail moving models, and simple airfields with lighting, shading, textures, transparency, and multiple levels of detail.

  • Constructs models and/or textures for use in visual and sensor realms of simulation.

  • Basic system level or image generator knowledge. Knowledge of basic CLI commands required to test component.

  • Conducts component testing with a lead or senior engineer.

  • Participate in customer meetings but not with scope decisions.

Candidates must have:

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline (STEM or Arts) or in the absence of a degree six years of related experience; identified skills and experience

  • Experience working with 3D computer modeling software such as Creator, Maya.

  • Experience with photo retouching and image editing tools such as Photoshop, Substance Painter.

  • Documenting Visual synthetic environment

  • Experience with Microsoft Office products or Google Apps

  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of scripting languages (such as JavaScript or Python)

  • Geo-references files (such as Google earth or ARCGIF)

  • Knowledge of CDB

  • Experience using Global Mapper, Arc or GIS tools

  • Exposure to AGILE, JIRA or JAMA or DOORS

  • Gaming or simulation experience. Knowledge of Unreal, Unity is a plus.

Basic Qualifications:

This position requires an HS Diploma or AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a HS diploma, GED or AA/AS degree, 6 years of relevant experience is required.
