The Retirement Plan Operations Manager is primarily responsible for overseeing the operations of UTC’s $25 billion U.S. defined benefit plans and $20 billion U.S. and Puerto Rico defined contribution plans including governance of strategic third party vendors. In addition, this position provides valuable input in determining strategy and design for the plans and is responsible for implementation and management. This role, within the UTC HR Benefits Operations team, works closely with the Retirement Strategy, Pension & Investments and Government Accounting organizations. The ideal candidate has retirement plan management experience. This is a business focused, management facing role, and requires strong customer service, business judgment, analytical, organizational, and communication skills. This critical leader reports to the Senior Director of Benefits & HR Operations.

Job Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Lead the operations/execution of retirement plan solutions for UTC’s employees and retirees.

  • Oversee all consulting/vendor relationships associated with the administration of US-based qualified DB and DC plans as well as nonqualified DB plans.

  • Coordinate plan administration among multiple corporate functions (including Legal, Pension & Investments, Treasury Operations, FP&A, Government Accounting, HRIS and Payroll) and external vendor partners.

  • Provide subject matter expertise to business units and vendor partners to ensure exceptional service in responding to employee and retiree plan issues/questions.

  • Lead projects to create retirement solutions to ensure efficient and effective use of resources.

  • Manage retirement plans to ensure compliance with UTC’s governance policies and all regulations.

  • Provide subject matter expertise on audits involving the company’s retirement plans.

  • Lead the development and maintenance of all required plan documentation and communications.

  • Lead retirement activities for mergers, acquisitions and divestitures

  • Assist with the administration of globally mobile employee pension plans

  • Involvement with other non-U.S. plans as applicable

  • Provide leadership and support on key ACE initiatives

Experience / Qualifications

  • 7-10+ years of retirement plan, benefits or human resources experience.

  • Experience managing supplier relationships

  • Team‐oriented and capable of leading cross‐functional teams; strong communication, interpersonal and people skills with demonstrated ability to interface across all levels of the organization including executive leadership

  • Excellent analytical and organization skills with proven ability to make informed, data based decisions

  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage several projects concurrently

  • Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point;

Education / Certifications:

  • BA/BS degree in Business Administration, Finance, HR, or related field with 10+ years’ experience

  • MBA or equivalent preferred with 7+ years’ experience

  • CEBS certification a plus, but not required
