UTC Aerospace Systems (UTAS) is one of the world’s largest suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and defense products. ISR & Space Systems is a business unit within UTAS and our products reside in deep space, low earth orbit, undersea and on the ground. We are also a major supplier to international space programs. The ISR & Space Systems business has contributed to significant advances in ground, air, space and imaging technology for over 85 years. Within ISR & Space Systems we design and manufacture Environmental Control and Life Support Systems on the International Space Station, including the space suit, and undersea in submarines.

This is a Co-op position in the Project Engineering function working for any of the following programs such as Navy, manned space and unmanned space. Manned Space and Navy capabilities are enabled by the life support hardware and engineering services provided our organization in Windsor Locks, CT. The successful candidate will be working with the IPD teams consisting of Systems Engineering, Test Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Design, Supplier Quality, Materials Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Material Planners, and Purchasing to coordinate the manufacture, qualification, and delivery of various Environmental Control and Life Support System (ECLSS) components. The selected candidate(s)will be assigned to and take direction from a Program Engineering Manager or a delegate.

Education / Certifications

  • This is a Co-op position for the period of roughly Jan 2020 through Mid August 2020.

  • Must have completed third year (at a minimum) towards a Bachelor’s of Science in any of the following studies, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Chemical Engineering

Experience/Qualifications

  • This is a Co-op position for the period of roughly Jan 2020 through Mid August 2020.

  • Must have high but focused energy in completing task assignments.

  • Must have a desire to work with team members and at time lead efforts assigned. Must have a desire to learn how to manage teams and learn some of the tools and techniques to manage projects and teams. Some of the following skills and activities are detailed below.

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Typical Task involvement (not an exhaustive list): o Team communications and team facilitation o Research and initiate engineering changes o Support more Senior Project Engineers on day to day tasks o Support resolution of hardware issues working with various assembly and test technicians and operations and engineering personnel. o Coordinate drawing reviews and team meetings and maintain team agendas, meeting minutes and action item closures o Support assembly and test activities o Support proposal and estimation activities o Develop and status detailed schedules using MS Project o Support design and program reviews o Support development test activities

  • Better than average skills in Microsoft Excel and Power Point

  • Ability to learn MS Project

  • • US Citizenship required
